#13 Audience Research
James Bond – Skyfall - People like the opening sequence of this film because in the first scene, we see James Bond fall into water, and this automatically makes the audience ponder on what happens to him. We then see him being dragged under by a hand, and that makes us wonder what this represents and if the hand is supposed to represent him accepting death. He then sinks through a sand hole, which may have something to do with the title ‘Skyfall’. A target then appears of James Bond and blood seeps out. The audience like this because it represents action and it keeps the viewers interested. We then come across a graveyard, which symbolises death, and keeps the viewer interested because they want to know who from the previous Bond films is dead or going to die. Something that puts people off this particular title sequence is the length of it, and how it has many irrelevant images that do not relate to the rest of the film. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - This film’s opening title sequence was recommended because it is a very bizarre clip. The opening title sequence is based around the movement of ink. The whole clip is black with bright reflecting of the ink or the humans. The title sequence is filmed with lots of short clips and many close ups, it is also in slow motion. Throughout the first half of the clip, the ink is flowing into the humans. Half way through the clip a match gets lit, this match is the first colour apart from black that is shown and it burns the human. Once the silhouette is burnt, it then starts to move around and emerge from what is seemed to be like a river of ink. This is to represent that the ink has changed the people. There are then a lot of clips of the people getting punched and the face shatters from the punch, this shows that there is potentially action in the film to come. This is a strange opening sequence as it doesn’t tell the audience quite what is going on but as there are many different quick clips then it draws the audience in. The change in colour, going from black to red with the fire in the middle also is a massive change and draws you in. Many different things take place in the opening sequence and it kind of tells a small story but that is not really related to the film but the message of the story tells you that the ink from the tattoo changes people.

Raiders of the lost ark - The films opening scene beggins with a the paramount logo wich then faids and a real mountain is shown in the background wich is very clever camera work, then you see the protagonist dressed for the tropics with a whip around his belt and his iconic hat and him standing in a dramatic pose being followed by his assissants acompanying him, it tells you straight away the names of the actors as the charecters venture throught the jungle on their adventure, a man removes some of the vines of a statue and then freaks out and runs away in horror this entises the audience to find out why he is so scared Indiana Jones is then told of the meaning of the idol they also find a poison dart wich shows that there could potentially be a native tribe nearby, a man who was accompanying him tries to kill him with a gun but Indiana uses his whip and takes the gun from him and he runs away.
